Assignment: MUSIC

1. What is your musical identity? What groups or types of music do you like. What were your influences as a child, teenager, and adult? Make a list, a collage, or do a writing about how music has made you who you are. You can also make a soundtrack for you life. What songs would you use?

Example: This journaler found a music collage she'd done when she was 16. She decided to update it and pasted them both in.

2. What are your musical memories? One song can bring back a flood of memories from a different time or place. I always think of driving along the Oregon Coast while I was dating my husband when I hear “Walk on the Ocean” by Toad the Wet Sprocket. Write down your own memories that are attached to music. You can illustrate your memories too.

3. What does music mean to you? How does it make you feel? What role does it play in your life. Draw a music staff and write on the lines all your thoughts about music. You could make a list of the calming songs or music you love, music that cheers you up, or just your thoughts about how music makes you feel.

Example: This music staff is full of lines about the Savior from favorite hymns.
