Assignment: POTTER PATRONUSES

This month was inundated with Harry Potter mania! Since I participated quite fully in the lunacy, I decided to create this month's assignment inspired by J.K. Rowling's books. Even if you haven't read them, you can still do these assignments, don't worry.

1. THE MIRROR OF ERISED

This mirror shows you not your face but your heart's desire. Draw a mirror and draw or write inside the mirror what your desires are. They could be your desires for right now in your life, for the future, etc. It's supposed to show you what would make you happy, or what you desire in the moment you look inside. The inscription on the mirror says, "erised stra ehru oyt ube cafru oyt on wohsi" which read backwards says "I show you not your face but your heart's desire."

2. YOUR PATRONUS

A patronus is conjured when dementors attack. Dementors symbolize anything that takes your happiness or your energy away. They make you feel as if you'll never be cheerful again. A patronus takes the shape of an animal as it chases the dementors away, and each person has a unique animal. In order to conjure the patronus, you think of a very strong happy moment in your life. For this exercise, draw the shape your patronus would take (and write why) and also describe your happy thought.

3. THE ROOM OF REQUIREMENT

In Hogwarts, there is a room which only appears when someone has great need. The room will fill itself with whatever is necessary to the applicant. For example, if you need a place to hide, it turns into a closet. If you need a place to study, it will fill itself with books and desks. What would your room of requirement turn into? What would be inside?

I hope this inspires even the Harry Potter reluctant to some deep thinking. It was a fun project. I hope to get some more pictures up soon!!!
